N. Dash was born in Florida in 1980 and currently lives between New Mexico and New York. Her works span across a variety of mediums, experimenting with drawing painting and photography. With a BA from New York University and an MFA from Columbia, her background is primarily American but her oeuvre benefits from international recognition.

Her presence at solo and two-person shows includes her exhibition at the White Flag Projects in Missouri, at the Sommer Contemporary Gallery in Israel and at the Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery in New York. Her group presence from 2014 includes participation in thematic exhibitions such as The Possible at the Berkeley Art Museum in California and The Independent: Dreams That Money Can’t Buy at the Maxxi Museum in Rome. In 2013 she featured at exhibitions in Ohio, Washington, California and Connecticut.

Dash’s work focuses on the hands-on, creative experience. Constantly interacting with her sources, she turns artefact into material in a vigorous re-working of objects, substances and materials. Returning to the importance of the palpable and the tangible in her oeuvre, she re-injects commonplace objects with newfound consequence. Her pieces that employ both the use of canvas and linen and acrylic and oil paints are designed to question the definitions of architecture, construction and landscape in traditional art. The juxtapositions of stretched or un-stretched fabric and those of original or painted form explore and query the limits and constraints of composition. Often large in scale, her works offer an immersive and inclusive experience, encouraging the viewer to both observe and participate in her creative endeavour.
