Jack Greer was born in Los Angeles in 1987 and travelled to New York to complete his degree at the Pratt Institute of Art. Greer now lives in New York and draws inspiration from his environment and surroundings. His work includes photography, sculpture, drawing and apparel designs and has been exhibited internationally in the States and in Europe.
A selection of his recent exhibition history includes his solo show at the White Cube in London this year and at ‘Art in General Presents’ in New York in 2013. His participation in Group exhibitions has varied from the Fondazione Museo Pino Pascali in Italy, where his work was displayed in ‘The Still House Group, Fondazione Museo Pino Pascali’ in 2014, to ‘The Fireplace Project” in East Hampton, New York in the show titled Honk if You don’t Exist.
The artist himself describes his work as constantly subject to change and development. His wide range of media, subject matters and notions do, however, all pertain to an underlying common concept. Greer aims to render his work pertinent, ‘extremely meticulous and real, loaded with tons of text and light-hearted punk rock imagery.’ His oeuvre thrives on the depiction of a visual, aesthetic language that reflects his urban environment. Thus abstaining from the traditional ideals of beauty and perfection, his works tend to present a raw and heartfelt interpretation of modern society and behavioural tendencies. His interest in sharp objects, three-dimensionality, original materials and innovative interpretations reflects this endeavour: successfully using the potential of art to portray the complexity of reality.
